Stupid sed(1) trick. You want to extract a range of lines /start/,/end/ but only want the first if there are multiple matches:  sed -n '/start/,//{p;/end/q;}' it's the same as  sed -n '/start/,/end/{p;/end/q;}' but abuses the most-recent-search to remove redundancy.
