FOIA of documents at UC Davis with respect to diversity statements of applicants for faculty positions suggests that only certain beliefs are acceptable to screeners and that they are used as a litmus test (not “holistic”).This will subvert reducing bias.

Agree -- poor training. My objection to medium+ dogs in apartments is that it seems to me that most apartments are not sufficient in size for bigger dogs.

Does a dog* barking endlessly in the apartment below you count as background noise when working from home? *any dog that is bigger than cat-size doesn't belong in apartments.

Agreed on all fronts. But I also know that getting traction for 'out there' ideas, or ideas that go against established thought in a field are hard to get going. An early stage seen lottery would give equal chance for diverse ideas to be explored.

Agreed. I think a lottery system for initial seed funding would give more equal opportunity to explore ideas and gain support for diverse research questions.

Researchers found that young children between the age of four and five not only prefer to learn from people who appear confident, they also keep track of how well the person's confidence has matched with their knowledge and accuracy in the past

in 1925, the incredible Taung Child fossil was announced to the world. Surprisingly, the news didn't come from a journal article but instead from a local newspaper. How the Sun scooped :

A lottery grant system seems to be gaining favor. A system where major funding agencies had smaller ($100k) seed grants on a lottery system, and larger ($500k+) grants on a standard system might be a good way to stimulate research and then fund seed projects with support.

“[R]eading outside our boundaries can produce epiphanies when we find that an argument, a metaphor, an analogy from an intellectual stranger, or even an enemy, might find new life in our thought.”

I can think of few things less “lively” than rehashing a conversation about the EEA, especially since twin studies are no longer the major workhorses of psychiatric genetics. BUT lest other people be confused that this is still actually a contentious issue....
