If speculation = noise and economic usage = signal, and your price is 100% noise, should your conclusion be - it's just a matter of time until we get signal; or - hm maybe there's a good reason it's all noise

And I'm saying the fact that there is no genuine usage is a valid datapoint, and handwaving that away with a "oh we're helpless because those evil speculators are speculating" is to miss the straightforward point that these have failed, because appcoins are toxic to users.

it's really quite possible to have reasoned critique of token economic models in a vacuum. not everything is bitcoin related. appcoins don't really compete with bitcoin & vice versa

The first utility token models emerged 7 years ago (mastercoin) and more seriously 4 years ago (Augur). That they haven't worked and we're still waiting for more data reflects on the poverty of the idea. It's a data point in of itself.

there's no good reason that users would embrace a transactional token to use an app - which is why Brave has 10m MAUs and BAT has ~2k DAUs (on chain).

I like this article, the critique is refreshing and on point. one conclusion is that issuers have very few levers to pull. to grow exchange rate the token economy must grow. but ultimately a token-denominated economy is user hostile, which is why we see relatively little uptake.

Brave so far is a great case study in how a successful app doesn’t guarantee that the related token will appreciate. I’d be shocked if they can “fix” the token economics

Brilliant takedown of the scam being run by ⁦⁩. “As soon as I figure out how to detect the Brave web browser, I will make sure that every Brave visitor gets this as their landing page. Because they deserve to know that Brave is bullshit.”
