I’m just now getting to this, but this was damn good. What I’ve loved about the debate around the #1619Project is how it is bringing to the public a greater understanding of how history/historiography works, and that there’s never been such a thing as “objective” history. twitter.com/thetattooedpro… pic.twitter.com/2zfFPvtQDR

And this here so perfectly sums up *why* the #1619Project exists. pic.twitter.com/GpeDCTOXKz

I really, truly thought people knew this. It was among the first things said in my college history course (recognizing that not everyone goes to college).

I think its a mix of the much of the "public" genuinely buying into the objective history narrative (especially of the US). And academics and pundits purposefully using that belief to push their bullshit, knowing full well that they are wrong.

I truly believe that the hate on the 1619 project is b/c for forever blk ppl have been taught that we don't really have a connection to this country b/c we did help build it. The 1619 project destroys that lie and lays out that no only did we build it thru our forced labor.

The very idea this country was built on we made it true. And it wasn't the founders that made the idea real it was us and its always been us. It gives me a since if pride I never had growing up talking abt history. And that's what they don't want us to have.
