Students whispering "¡Yo también!" (Me, too!) and "¡Yo quiero ir!" (I want to go!) accompanied by ASL gestures after other students shared their vacation activities kept engagement high and greatly helped eliminate excited blurting in English.

I don’t teach Spanish, I facilitate Spanish language and culture. My students do not learn Spanish, they acquire Spanish language according to the opportunities I provide for this to happen in my classroom.

So many of our students just want to "be" us. This amazing woman once wrote on my paper, "You are talented in French. I hope you find a way to include it in your life." Thank you Melanie McQueen for being my inspiration and believing in me 27 years ago.
