BAME people in our movement have been fighting to make the evils of colonialism visible for over 40 years. This dog-whistle rhetoric is especially concerning from an MP who claimed that a feminist/anti-racist agenda in schools was having a “negative” impact on young white boys.

. also recently compared her northern accent to the experiences of racism and misogyny faced by Black women in parliament. There is a clear pattern here.

This is evident of a worrying turn in sections of the party towards thinking we can win by mimicking Tory racism. BAME voters across the country saved our party from electoral oblivion in December. Don’t take us for granted.

I'd like to think there's a broader context for this--for example, an earlier moment in the speech where she praises the teaching of colonialism and imperialism. If there isn't, well, she has no place as Deputy Leader, that is certain, and only the start of it.

I found this very odd when I heard it because colonial history isn’t on the curriculum. I could only assume she really meant to was taught from the perspective of the coloniser, but it was odd.

When did she say that? About the feminist anti racist 'agenda'?

I mean, our education system doesnt teach us about colonialism. It teaches, vaguely about an Empire only on positive terms. I'm sure Rayner knows this.

This is what she is meaning. That children should NOT be taught about the Empire as if it is some thing to glory in or as something that should be relevant to today. The Tory 'British Values' taught in schools is an appalling example of this.
