Engineers confirm 's mission ended today. The spacecraft is in safe mode, as planned. In 16+ years in space, Spitzer changed our understanding of the universe & was a pathfinder for space telescopes to come. It was a very good spacecraft🖤

We're so glad you enjoyed visiting our corner of the universe and got to see rover. One note: Please be aware that it isn't possible for an RTG to explode like bomb. The team can fully prepare to install the MMRTG on the launch pad without using a fueled generator.

No, Opportunity and Spirit have completed their (vastly-extended) missions. We purposely send our rovers and landers to different parts of Mars to learn as much about the planet as we can.

An ocean observing satellite launching this fall was named today in honor of Michael Freilich, former head of 's Earth Science division. The US-European project shows the teamwork Freilich championed as a means to better understand the world we share.
