No, it's an artist's illustration. It shows a white dwarf star is pulling material off a brown dwarf companion. The material collects into an accretion disk until reaching a tipping point, causing it to suddenly increase in brightness.

Researchers made a rare find in data from our retired Kepler spacecraft: a super-outburst🌟 from a previously unknown dwarf nova. The star system consists of a white dwarf that's stripping material from a much smaller brown dwarf, like a stellar vampire🧛🏽♀️ go.nasa.gov/2Sgh6uB pic.twitter.com/52n8sqZAOE

Planets beyond our solar system come in many shapes and sizes. Some orbit a host star in the habitable zone, but some are in the red zone — like this "hot Jupiter" found last year by @NASAHubble. Our Spitzer Space Telescope just ended a successful 16+ year mission. It was one of @NASA's Great Observatories along with @NASAHubble, @chandraxray & Compton. You could even call them ... super😉
See how they changed our view of the cosmos⬇️ pic.twitter.com/ANkKYl9zrO

"Mission manager, loss of signal has been confirmed."
Friends & family of the Spitzer mission gathered at @NASAJPL yesterday as the spacecraft performed its final command. See the scene from mission control – and why it was so important. go.nasa.gov/2GDTQS2 pic.twitter.com/C8MtuiKRob

I am honored to be celebrating #SpitzerFinalVoyage at @NASAJPL. This mission identified important and new questions and tantalizing objects for further study. I'm sure @NASASpitzer's immense impact on science will last well beyond the end of its mission: nasa.gov/press-release/… pic.twitter.com/gh1ee5JwsB

Many of Spitzer's breakthroughs will be further studied by @NASAWebb. Webb is also specialized for infrared, but is about 1,000 times more powerful. The telescope will be able to push Spitzer's science findings to new frontiers.

.@NASAspitzer was one of NASA's Great Observatories – with @NASAHubble, @chandraxray & Compton – designed to observe the cosmos in different wavelengths. Spitzer specialized in infrared, peering beyond visible light.

Engineers confirm @NASAspitzer's mission ended today. The spacecraft is in safe mode, as planned.
In 16+ years in space, Spitzer changed our understanding of the universe & was a pathfinder for space telescopes to come. It was a very good spacecraft🖤 go.nasa.gov/2vBoaKO pic.twitter.com/l9kU7oHVGg

Spitzer is well past its original 2.5 year prime mission. In 2016, NASA made a decision to close out the Spitzer mission in 2018. When Webb's launch was postponed, Spitzer was granted an extension to continue operations until this year.
