"Next time some paid liar in the fossil fuel industry insists fracked gas is helping solve the climate crisis, remind them a single @exxonmobil fracking site 'leaked more methane in 20 days than all but 3 European nations over an entire year"

The only way to stop pollution is to put oil and gas companies out of business. Litigate everywhere for their gross safety violations (broadly defined as endangering humanity)

Fracking needs to be banned, at least Quebec did the right thing and banned it.

Honest question: did the warming potential of the leaked methane exceed, let’s say, 70% of the reduction in emissions from coal use in the US power sector? Cause that’s really the more valid comparison.

What is it with all the half-life of methane stats? Methane is between 84 - 105 times more potent than CO2 over a 20-year timeframe, and yes it breaks down over time, but even over a 100-year timeframe it’s 25x worse than CO2. And we’re running out of CO2 budget within the decade

Doesn’t methane have an atmospheric half life of 7 yrs? So the methane leak would have a transient impact no? But any CO2 reductions would have a much longer half life no?

Improve security in this installations, add a plan B in case something goes wrong, if they cannot control, that means that needs to be banned. A carbon ticket fee should be mandatory for this companies, this is the way they understand, affecting the budget. #carbintax is urgent.

The only reason reported methane leaks are suddenly getting bigger is because the public has access to independent data which can challenge under reported numbers published by offending energy corps and complicit gov't regulators.
