Hi Gabriel, I understand it's not evidence that's why I said "according to the article." But I definitely could have be more clear. Thanks for pointing out the issue, I took down that tweet for now.

Thanks Chenchen for explaining. You have a point. I think I will try to ask the SCMP reporter directly. I'll take down the tweet for now.

The article says "Those analyses said China’s leadership knew the epidemic was out of control even as it kept such crucial information from foreign governments and public health agencies."

ALA there was a report back in Nov (assume the sources didn't make up the whole thing) that means there was something going on in Nov in Wuhan. Maybe not "sweeping" but something noticeable enough to file a report, like 1-5 cases of a new disease every day (from SCMP piece)

I hope the article explain the document more. It has daily cases, so sounds very real-time. But the article did say some could be backdated. It documented 381 on Jan 1 while the authorities announced 41. I'd love to know how many were backdated and how many were known at the time

Hi Chenchen, I put it here because it's about cases in Nov so I think it's an important related read. I'm aware that it said the doctors were not aware of the new disease until late Dec. Not sure about the authorities tho, it didn't explain clearly, and it is government data.

Breaking News: Chinese officials ended the lockdown on Wuhan, where the coronavirus first emerged. But the city that has reopened after more than 10 weeks is far from a return to normal life.

The coronavirus pandemic has led officials around the world to issue stay-at-home orders for millions of people. But these orders do not apply to so-called essential workers. Are you considered an essential worker? If so, we would like to hear from you:

The NYT finds nearly 40,000 people have flown in from China since Trump imposed the travel restrictions he regularly describes has having "closed down"/"closed off"/"shut down" China. (The restrictions were never actually designed as a complete ban.)

China confirms Ren Zhiqiang, who criticized Xi for mishandling the coronavirus outbreak, is under investigation. Ren is a resolute believer in Deng-style reform,a well-connected princeling and a loyal critic of the party. My column on why this matters

"Why was there news on CCTV on Jan 1 abt an investigation into 8 ‘rumour-mungers’?" "Why was information about the virus sent to the U.S. on Jan 3?" "Why was there no announcement on Jan 7 of the instructions [from Xi]? Those instructions have still not been published! "

Xi cares far more about what Ren has to say than what Xu Zhangrun has to say. Ren is actually not just a "little old man", he is a medium-level princeling and elite beijinger who says things that a lot of the old beijing elite think
