I studied in Moscow in the last year of the Soviet Union. So I can appreciate a little of the Soviet stuff.

OH yeah. Of course. There are the movies too. I used to watch ST:TNG with college friends. And one of them was always shushing our jackassery. "When I watch, I pretend we're living in that version of the 23rd century, so shut up." I'd like to apologize, because, yeah.

Any movies where a reasonably functional future society serves as a backdrop to the action? That seems to happen more on tv. Movies are all dystopias, starships, and isolated bases.

Yes, but. The city and its culture were far more inspired by Hong Kong and Tokyo, down to the origami unicorn at the end. I grew up in LA and it didn't feel like the future of LA. (OK, except for that bit in the Bradbury Building.) I know, who cares, because it's genius.

As much as I love Blade Runner, it bothers me on a fundamental level. Future Los Angeles without Latinx culture?
