Run as hard as you can for as long as you need to love the simple pleasure of standing nearly still and merely breathing. I think that's a much prettier way to say it than "high-intensity interval training."

I'll continue on as a contributing editor at the magazine, a role I'll savor. ICYMI, journalism and the quest for truth are losing the attention game, badly. As far as I'm concerned, you and I are colleagues in that quest, and I look forward to working with you, too. Onward.

Also, as my friends at know, this is a place no one leaves, exactly. Our colleague Frederick Douglass, "who's done an amazing job and is getting recognized more and more," still pops up on Chartbeat from the afterlife. In that spirit, I won't be leaving, exactly.

If you want to start with the recent work, I might recommend this and investigation that just this week won the Selden Ring Award for Investigative Reporting. Dive in anywhere, you can't go wrong. |

To get to be a part of that team is a remarkable gift. I absolutely cannot wait. And if you don't yet know 's work yourself, I envy you the discovery. Why not start with the org's first win (w/ , 40 yrs ago), and work forward?

When I left four years ago, I had the sense that my journey with public media wasn't over, although I had no inkling this would be its next stage. I've known as a listener and as a longtime fan. Getting to know the team behind the work has been a treasure in itself.

I could not possibly be more excited about this work, or about the extraordinary team of new colleagues I'll be joining.

If you were ever to make that invitation, Howard, I would not have it in me to refuse.

Complexity, as true as it always is, is not a story. The story is the order you bring to the chaos, to illuminate the deeper truths that lie within it.

Doing some research for a story, and came across this editorial from a Minnesota paper in August 1920. Two days before, TN had become the last state to ratify the 19th Amendment, the last hurdle women’s suffrage needed to clear to become law. I thought this was a keeper.
