Hey : the FB research distributed systems RFP deadline is supposedly Dec 6, 11:59pm "Anywhere on Earth", but the system no longer accepts submissions? (It's 7:07pm AoE.) It's pretty frustrating having stayed up to 2am to finish a proposal to find that I can't submit it.

[THREAD] and directive require for tracking. EU websites rely on IAB banner providers to implement consent, but what happens behind the cookie banner interface? Our study finds 54% of them are non-compliant. (1/11)

Already part of the plan for CSCI 1310! That, and using clang-format for consistent code style (easier debugging, replaces style grading).

This ties in nicely with ideas from 's great "Towards Multiverse Databases"[0]: "A multiverse database transparently presents each application user with a flexible, dynamic, and independent view of shared data" – yes please! [0]

If you're considering the Brown PhD program this application cycle, is trying to make the process more inclusive by waiving fees ($75) for underrepresented groups and the GRE is no longer required! Also, please feel free to DM w/ questions about my experience so far!

* a 9-person business that used video surveillance on its employees, * a school that tracked attendance using facial recognition and, despite consent from parents, was fined for excessive data collection, * a school dean's plaintext password on a cloud system, and more.

But also, hilarious, shocking stories: * a hospital where all employees could access patient records, * 22 lines of JavaScript that cost BA $221M, * a hotel breakfast guest list that led to a €15k fine, * an angry citizen's mailing list that exposed 1.6k email addresses,

Students in my "Privacy-conscious Computer Systems" seminar class (CSCI-2390) wrote a fantastic set of short (2pg) case studies on 17 different real world GDPR violations: The examples show the GDPR affects everybody, from individuals to corporate giants.

Thanks! I belatedly found the badge legend (), which says as much. A sensible criterion, given how difficult exact reproduction of performance results can be (and hence my curiosity).

I'm glad to see artifact evaluation coming to systems conferences! Way to go. I'm curious about how closely performance results had to match for a "Results Replicated"? It'd be interesting to know the criteria and the main reasons why some papers didn't get the badge.

GDPR compliance is expensive and tricky to retrofit onto existing datacenter systems. Can we design systems that are GDPR-compliant "by construction"? Find out more in our upcoming Poly'19 workshop paper at (w/ +others): -- thoughts welcome!
