But if you're looking for stats, I'm collating them this issue here for emissions per GB transferred and all that, to hopefully but this twaddle to rest. We can hope, I guess…

It's mostly bullshit, and largely down to journalists uncritically accepting the contents of a press release by an energy company as news, as it marketed some new browser extension. I wrote about this earlier in the year.

Web performance and the use of tiresome autoplay marketing videos, and accessibility suddenly become more of a priority, because they measurably extend your runway in terms of a carbon budget. And you can point to YOUR OWN FRICKING WIND TURBINE. Is this being done yet anywhere?

I'm asking this because I'm trying to think through the mindset of carbon emissions reporting and offsets, particularly in the context of digital What if you declared a carbon budget upfront for digital, and then optimised to stay inside it? You get different incentives.

If you: - wanted to account for *ALL* the carbon emissions from all the network transfer from all attendees - wanted to point to you decarbonising the grid - dropped 2k on a share of a wind farm like these lot How many hrs of zoom would it account for?

Have you found any useful numbers around the size of ICT waste compared to other industries? I've seen figures citing it as the largest source of toxic waste by weight globally now, and one sense I can kinda believe it, but I don't know how toxic waste is being classified here…

Hi back in September you mentioned at stat when talking about the new DEFRA digital sustainability strategy that IT waste was now the largest waste stream globally in terms of toxic waste now. Is there a specific source you'd refer to find out more?

Every time we talk about the environmental impact of online activity, but not talk about impacts on public discourse like this is a failure. Especially when you see the same green companies financially supporting them:

Yeah, I find it a bit tiring TBH. Imagine if cars, buildings, industry, agriculture & airplanes got twice as efficient every two years, like much online activity has for the last decade or so. We need to decarbonise it sure, but we need to decarbonise *everything* anyway.

Help please! An excellent colleague has asked for: "nice graphs or pictures that highlight the inequality of flying (ideally UK focus) and also that we need to reduce flying [by 2050]" Thanks!

Where does this run. On the remarkable tablet itself? I was under the impression it was a kinda Linux-y under the hood, and that you could run stuff on it, but I can’t tell from reading the repo.
