Wow, I had no idea there were so many ways to say Tag. I thought that was the one universal word. TIL

I've never heard of Tig. Where do they say that?

I'm so grateful to Brie and all the other amazing marginalised developers in this industry who are changing the conversation. There are many of us now. Through games we will fundamentally shake the world.

I started working with activists and charities instead. Started experimenting, going to jams. I wanted to make games that empowered. That made invisible stories visible. That healed and dismantled the structures that hurt us.

It's why when I graduated in 2015 and looked at all the game design positions open to me at the time, I decided not to apply to any of them. I had no desire to design the same tired games that told the same tired stories to white men. Stories that hurt me.

This! This is why I came into the games industry. This is why I make games. It's what I've been trying to communicate with every game I've released and every talk I've given. Brie has gone and said it better in a tweet than I could all these years.

Very interesting course for broadening my horizons as a game designer. : Thank you for conducting this course and thank you for mentioning your role as a guest speaker. Without it I wouldn’t have known about it. :)

I feel you. We shouldn't have to choose between a career and safety but here we are. In the end I decided to get on with my career cause it's what I would do if I had complete freedom. It's not easy though and the industry needs to do more to protect us.

This is an important thread. When marginalised developers say that the industry needs to change, we mean every single individual needs to do their part.

Toxic workplaces create toxic content that encourage toxic behaviour among their audiences—and that audience is the recruitment pool for the games industry. And the cycle repeats and intensifies. This is what I saw clearly through my experiences and what I’m working to dismantle.

Absolutely! I know how difficult it is to find freelance game design work when you're starting out. Giving friends and peers a step up is a win win win all around.
