If the tax plan passes, I will have to reevaluate and may not be able to afford to finish the PhD. I know I'm not the only one, and there are a lot of people doing more important work than me that might not get done now. 3/3

I have a graduate degree and could be working making a good living, I'm living on 50% of what I'd make to earn a PhD because I think I can help more people with the PhD experience.

I'm a student working w/ autistic folks to create better services. Under the new GOP tax plan, I will have an effective tax rate of 80%, and about $7k a year to live on.

...if u don’t understand: House gop bill treats tuition waivers (paid for through work) as taxable income. In other words, there’s no cash to pay, but people studying for high tech jobs have to find it anyway. Can’t be done. USA brain drain begins.
