Moms 4 Housing “Tennant Opportunity to Purchase Act” is a proposed ordinance by Oakland City Councilmember . It would give renters the first right to purchase the home they’re in, if the building owner decides to sell.

The story continues. Oakland City Councilmember says she was inspired by the moms to propose an ordinance that gives tenants the chance to buy their own homes. Bas is proposing the Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act.

Tomorrow Oakland City Councilmember plans to introduce TOPA legislation inspired by that would allow tenants the first opportunity to purchase their property. Says it would incentivize sales to tenants, land trusts, or nonprofit housing developers.
