We're looking for the nation’s favourite locomotives – and we need you to tell us. Steam or diesel, standard gauge or narrow, main line or industrial, if it’s your favourite, let us know. We’re after locomotive classes or designs not individuals. Closing date for votes is June 1.

Hi , it appears to be an allocation pool for 10 ScotRail Class 37s. What context are you referring to with it?

At a higher speed there is more momentum so the pickups are out of contact for a shorter time. Three solutions: swap the point for a live frog and add insulating joiners, permanently couple a wagon to the back and add extra pickups to it, or fit a stay alive capacitor.

Hi Jim, is this with quite a small locomotive? It sounds as though it loses power whilst going over the insulated frog of the point as all of the pickups are on the plastic at the same time causing the stutter until momentum takes it forward to the metal rail on the other side.

The awards changed slightly every year depending on which models came out so there wasn't always a DMU/EMU category and therefore not one to go into these awards. Rather than have two categories with 4/5 models in, we decided to have one, more substantial, category.
