Braves beat writer for since 2001. Unlike Billy The Kid, I truly am from a town known as Wheeling, West Virginia.

That long layoff before he pitched in Saturday's game was caused by a sore neck. I would think they'll give him another appearance or two and evaluate Venters' status before making that move.

That's so 2017. It obviously had more to do with the difference between his wOBA and xwOBA

Trevor Bauer took issue with the Braves... taking pitches and fouling balls off? Freddie Freeman responds: "It makes no sense. I don't think he even knows what he was saying." More here:

Sugar coating what? Do you remember what the story was on Opening Day? At what point this season has that changed?

Did you read the story? If you only read headlines, why didn’t you same the same about Biddle the previous two days? The entire pen has been scrutinized going back to Opening Day. This story in particular focused on Sobotka

Soroka ended his day by escaping a bases-loaded threat in the fifth. He allowed one run and four hits over five innings (84 pitches). He threw 30 sliders. His previous high was 26 sliders during a 90-pitch effort in Miami on May 12

Soroka enters the fifth with his pitch count at 67. He is due to lead off the bottom half of the inning. But an efficient inning might lead him to the sixth as the Braves' work with a short pen.

Soroka totaled 49 and 70 pitches in his first two starts for Gwinnett. So, he'll be available for at least 90 pitches this afternoon. Both lefties (Minter and Biddle) are likely unavailable. Sobotka, Winkler, Jackson and Parsons will be today's high-leverage options

Even with Vizcaino done for the season, there’s still reason to doubt Kimbrel will end up with the Braves

Donaldson lining out to CF w/ a 109.3 mph exit velo was a bit of a rarity. Dating back to 2015, MLB hitters batted .827 (1153-for-1394) on liners hit straightaway w/ an exit velo of 109 mph or above.

Gausman blew a 97.5 mph heater past Escobar to end the sixth with his eighth strikeout. His 4-seamer has averaged 94.2 mph, which would be the second-highest mark he's produced in a start with the Braves. Former teammate Adam Jones' solo homer stands as the D-backs' only hit.
