I suspect this government's first thought is always more to do with the short term economic impact of their policies and less to do with any sentimentality about christmas.

I've nearly finished The Patterning Instinct by Jeremy Lent. Good recommendation - I'm not sure I've read a more interesting book.

News tonight : BBC attacks government for corruption over contracts for PPE. Next item : Labour censor Jeremy Corbyn. WTFF are labour doing ? Are they a Tory funded misfocus group ?

Like most systems, the establishment tends towards equilibrium and political efforts so far have been more aimed at preserving the status quo than affecting change. The response to the political greenwash around climate change should always be show the Co2 graph.

The only hope of bringing them to account is through the legal system, but even that they seem to be able to just shrug off.

Nothing you could say would would surprise me anymore about Johnson and his cronies - except perhaps that they are cancelling Brexit because it was clearly a bad idea and are handing government over to someone else because they're not up to it.
