we would like to just finish the quarantine on the ship as planned, decompress in a non-quarantine environment in Japan for a few days, then fly back to the U.S. pursuant to our own arrangements. What's wrong with that?

OK, so here's the thing: As long as the official plan by Japanese health officials is to release those of us who are still healthy from quarantine in just under four days, why would I want to interfere with that by taking up an offer from U.S. officials to fly us back to Travis

You might be exposed during your "non quarantine" few days in Japan, and so might be able to infect others during the new two weeks incubation period before you started showing symptoms. It's just common sense. People are dying, which is much worse than inconvenient quarantine.

It’s a complex situation. Canadians are there as well as the US, CDC assessing the situation. If you can, take one of the state bound flights. There are 2 for all 380 citizens. Canada will also be making a plan. India is now addressing their citizens.

After reading this article I'm guessing there is something happening because there's others on the cruise ship that have asked their governments to help them get off the ship. I frankly don't blame them because the rate of new infections is increasing on the cruise ship.
