Just seen it was 20 years this week that Jose Mourinho started out as a manager at Benfica. For this piece last year and I went through his career, club by club, speaking to loads of people. Personally I much prefer the Jose of the first 10 years

Based on the fact it would be completely out of character for Arsenal to get BOTH Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar, the question is: if you can get only one who do you pick? I couldn't decide so I asked a handful of former players. For

Grimsby Town's next three games, beginning with Cheltenham tomorrow, called off due to a case of COVID-19 in the squad. Spoke with chairman Philip Day earlier this week. “If we had to test every week we will have to close down."

Liverpool put their U17s and U18s through their level 2 coaching badges. Not sure how many clubs are doing this? "He said: 'You are not going to play for Liverpool, but you are going to be a coach for Liverpool.'"

Even before the news from Grimsby, the EFL knew it had to start testing again. Mandatory weekly tests shouldn’t be needed IF everyone follows the rules, so random tests are the likely compromise. ⚽️

The EFL's crap week gets worse. Saturday's Cheltenham v Grimsby game in L2 is off after a member of Grimsby's squad tests positive for Covid, forcing others into self-isolation. Coming so soon after the Orient debacle, this is all the league needs.

What does Sandra Bullock have to do with Manchester United's EBITDA limit being set at £65m by banks? Not much, aside from a tortured analogy. So of course the smart guys in graphics made it into this quote card. More 👇🏻

Fourth for Thomas suggests everything is pointing in the right direction for the Giro d'Italia. A solid 9th for Dowsett, but what a ride from the machine Ganna.

Macquarie isn't lending Southampton or Dortmund anything. Sure, if they fail to pay those instalments, they'll be in FFP/licensing trouble for missing payments to a football cred, but that would be between them, Birmingham & the football authorities, not the bank.

It's OK, Ramon. I interviewed Macquarie's head of sport a few months ago. I understand what they're doing. Thanks, though, and hope all's well with you.

You're misunderstanding the process. Birmingham need to borrow £ now, Macquarie says 'OK, what assets have have you got that we can secure it on?' Birmingham says 'we're owed £18m by two credit-worthy clubs'. Macquarie says 'Ok, sign that over & we'll lend you money' BCFC on hook

How do you figure that, David? They're charges placed on BCFC, secured against those revenue streams.

Birmingham are borrowing ££ from Aussie bank Macquarie secured on transfer instalments owed by Southampton & Dortmund for Adams (£5m) & Bellingham (£13m). Yes, it's mortgaging the future to pay for present but it makes sense & it means Macquarie thinks are good for it.
