A quick reminder to never cite predatory journals: one of them just published an almost verbatim copy of @AKutschireiter's (lab member) previous article

New lab paper today from , Cindy Tu, and . We trained monkeys to play a simple continuous joystick-controlled prey-pursuit game. Kind of like when Pacman is hunting ghosts, but with no walls.

Congratulations for this simple method to synthesize RNNs whose internal dynamics are aligned to the dynamics of variables in a given behavioral task. If you have an idea of how a task is solved dynamically, Eli can give you an RNN that implements those dynamics!

Lili and I read your story together. So touching. I knew you were special from the summer you spent at Jazlab but I learned a lot about you that I didn’t know. I agree with Frankl all the time, and yet, I am sure that success will follow you whatever you do! Happy Thanksgiving!

…and that would lower the UK’s carbon output by a fraction of 0.00017. Will the Guardian write 6000 articles of similar impact to cover the remainder? The late David McKay wrote a great piece about this brand of environmental bullshit:

Thank you for putting together this thoughtful spotlight. They distilled the key ideas in the paper better than we did!

I’ve heard the same thing about VSS. Also true at CCN? Maybe it is the streetlight effect.

Don’t reply. I got two of these emails about two different publications of mine from many years ago using identical wording to each other and to yours.

Thanks Anne. In my mind, we have two interrelated questions: 1) does running *cause* modulation, 2) if it does, is the effect mediated through some latent variable (arousal)? I’m hoping we can get an answer to #1 first. Apparently, V. Dragoi is working on it!

First let's see if the effects are similar or different across species, and then we can think why. As far as I know, the answer to the empirical question is not known.
