This viral tweet exposes some very big microaggressions that exist for Latinos and other marginalized communities. "You're so tall for a Mexican."

The "micro" in "microaggression", refers to their routine frequency, "not the scale of their impact".... and this story shows the major impact they have on the everyday lives of Black women in medicine. Please read until the very end.

Activist projects like entered the mainstream during that time. And they were met with backlash from some of the same media figures who signed the Harper’s letter. (See )

It would be so interesting to see a short history of when exactly “campus free speech” became such a complaint of a certain sect of opinion writers. I would point to the origin being mid-2010s, when students of color began to speak up about their experiences in higher ed.

As a psychologist, I want to remind you that racism is a type of trauma. Even racial microaggressions can cause PTSD symptoms. Your Black friends are being traumatized right now, and every day. Many of them suffer PTSD from experiencing racism. Please keep that in mind.

New blog post on hyphenated identities and microaggressions! “How many of us have been asked this question and have felt a sense of anxiety and discomfort but feel obliged to respond? The mere essence of the question reinforces social stratification.”

Microaggressions - "the micro refers to the everyday regular mundane reactions, not its severity. The severity comes.. in its cumulative effect" 'Your name is too difficult, can I say it this way?'

Today a student asked me if I have suffered micro-aggressions as a woman in surgery and how I handle it. I replied that gender-based discrimination is pervasive & not unique to surgery. It is not a reflection of ability or competence - it happens to nearly everywoman.

“... his phrase for that was, we want to recruit the people who start a sentence by saying, I'm not racist, but. And if they've said that, they're almost there. All we have to do is get them to come a little bit further.”

Everytime white people code switch to relate more to me it reads as racist. They talk in this “haaaay girllllll”, “yooo whaddup DAWWGG” kinda way and it’s weird as fuck.

You’re 8 years old. Your 3rd grade class orders chinese food & your father delivers it. You are so excited to see your pops in school. He’s your hero. But apparently other kids don’t think he’s so cool. They laugh at him and mimic his accent. You don’t want to be Chinese anymore.
