Good job it's nothing to do with austerity or breaking up and selling off our nascent IT / broadband industry or anything idealogical

So I know everyone's got their eyes on Pine Island Glacier because a biggish calving is imminent, but keep some of your gaze on . It really is motoring. Now poking above 63 degrees S and about to break free of surrounding sea-ice.

Today is a Palindrome Day in all date formats (UK, USA, ISO). It’s also a palindrome day of the year (33) and there are a palindrome number of days left in the year (333). Quite a unique day!

Talking of which. My second class on principles of climate is coming soon😱 Any suggestions on good + recent textbooks covering observations of recent climate change and modelling? So far I have: - Elementary Climate Physics by Taylor - Physics of Climate by Peixoto - IPCC

As part of the way Earth works as a system, carbon is continuously passed between the ocean, the land and the atmosphere. Satellites can help us understanding the carbon cycle and its role in climate change:

Receiving an EGU acceptance letter for a conference in Europe, to present work funded by the European Space Agency in collaboration with colleagues from all over Europe just made today even sadder. Hoping today isn't as dark a day for British science as it feels.

1/2: At the early morning of JAN 28 it was -35.1 °C cold - the coldest air we measured so far. Then, within the next 24 h, air temperatures rose to our “usual” -25 °C. However, instead of staying there, it continued to get warmer..

I like to think I can see a map of the European Union in this cloud. How sad to watch the UK evaporate away today.
