A true psychic would have ideal flexible work: they could just show up 30 seconds before clients walked in
I often think of this when I see "Open" signs on psychic shopfronts, but no apparent custom. Yes, it's a joke, I understand the issues..

If I were a true psychic I’d make a killing on the stock market and then devote my time to mathematical research. Come to think of it, the research might be a whole lot more efficient too.

"I'd like to thank John von Neumann for his assistance proving Lemma 3, from beyond the grave."
Curious, & I guess serious: do you have the sense you don't have enough time for mathematical research? If so, that seems really unfortunate!

Ted Chiang has a short story similar to this called What's expected of us which describes a predictor machine which accurately predicts when a user is going to click a button.
Existence of a true psychic would mean that the world is deterministic and there is no free will.

I recently reread that story, which may (unconsciously) be why this is on my mind. Admittedly, I've had this thought for many years when I walk past psychic shopfronts.

I saw a newspaper comic, "you're the only one in this flight, the entire psychic convention cancelled at the last minute."

(Good joke! Tho I suspect they'd say there's constraints to their art stopping abilities like that, just like superheroes and magicians are also not unbound.)

Maybe they’re not actually in there, but know nobody will come in until the right moment, so thus completely safe to leave the door open. At the ordained time the psychic simply walks in the back door and sits down.

What the psychic's signage should read is, "Walk-ins welcome. We're expecting you".
