Curious: what do you think you, personally (not others!), should do about climate change? How do you feel about your own answer - does it seem satisfactory to you, or unsatisfactory?

I realize it's tempting to say what others should do, but it's certainly not what I'm asking, nor what I'm interested in.

My own answer: I'm really unsure, and trying to figure it out. I'm also a little frustrated - I can get lots of good advice, but it feels very piecemeal, and often contradictory. So I'm still trying to figure it out.

Thanks for all the replies - many interesting things! Just to re-emphasize: I'm also interested in whether you feel your actions are satisfactory / like you're doing your part? One (partial) litmus: if everyone did what you're doing, do you think things would turn out well?

Another followup question: is there anything you've read or watched that gave really good & detailed guidance informing how you act?

One more question: do you know your CO2 emissions? (US average is about 20 tonnes per year.)

Odgovor korisniku/ci @michael_nielsen
To clarify: that's ~20 tonnes/capita of the US total, including many industrial uses. Attribution to individuals is tricky, because many industrial uses are in your supply chain. The poll's intent is to discern if you've done a detailed personal accounting & if so how it came out

Curious: very few people are replying that they see "carbon offsets" as part of their response. Are they simply something you haven't considered? Don't trust? Too expensive? Some other reason?

Exploring the tree - especially the leaves - reveals an astounding range of people's personal ways of responding to climate change.

Colossal volumes of coal are being dug up and exported from Australia and burned in China and India, and that is set to increase dramatically. Offsets are piddling in comparison form of denial. Look at what Mann is saying in this link,

Thanks for the comment! Curious: if the offsets work as claimed, doesn't that reduce CO2 in the atmosphere? And if one purchases enough offsets, then won't that compensate for one's other CO2 emissions? TBC, I'm not disagreeing, just trying to understand your argument better!

This is simple and complex. Do them, if they are certified; but the price may not be right (and you might think twice if it was). Two types of problems: 'Above' voluntary (consumer/corp) emissions offset is the UN regime which is ... wobbly 'Below' it is ... vague biz practice.

UNFCC regulates carbon emissions for some countries and some (heavy) industries, but it is a problematic system (being negotiated as I write at ). The problem for the voluntary segment (industries that are not regulated, and their consumers) is that offsets need regulating

I’ll give a personal answer since that’s what you’re asking for. At this point feels that individual contributions won’t help at all, I see in a lot of friends a sense of defeat, and having a longer shower and wasting water doesn’t feel like changes anything 1/

I’m still a positivist, and that’s how I feel. The incentive system is broken, and that’s what we have to work on. What the company by is doing is paramount. You have to get rid of info assymetry in order to make good decisions (efficiently in a global stage
