christian-ish mystic here. i love the idea that the divine could be human, shattering our expectations of how a deity should act and erasing the perceived separation between us and god

No, although the SBC is one of the larger organized institutions of the particular strain of fucked up religion in America

I'm worried that the religion entrusted with this story has inflicted incalculable spiritual damage on my soul and the souls of every person I know and love.

The longer I do life/ministry, the more I’m drawn to leaders who are marked primarily by Humility—an enduring wonder at grace, rich curiosity/teachability, disinterest in reputation- & empire-building, quickness to confess weakness publicly, joy in complimenting/crediting others.

The final straw for me intellectually with evangelicalism was that when you engage with it on any sort of critical level it falls apart. Evangelical ideology rests on appeal to authority ("we're right because God says so"). Remove that and you've got nothing.

Like & RT if led you to marry too young, marry an abuser, ignore warning signs in a SO, or just plain marry the wrong person. I’m curious how many failed marriages are a result of a system that worships marriage and pushes it on kids.

I used to think the stories in the Bible were literal and direct and the mystical language like “the kingdom of Heaven is within you” was metaphorical and obscure. I now see it completely oppositely.
