Naomi Clark [暗悪・直美]
That time in summer 1990 when Captain America was like "actually, fuck the imperialist American war on drugs."

This was all possible for two reasons: the unabashedly political Ann Nocenti, and an ongoing plot where... Captain America BECOMES A TWEAKER

Sadly, for most of this storyline Cap stops the political philosophy and just goes more & more aggressive, paranoid Scary Righteous Dad

This is the first time in decades that Steve Rogers gets this creepy, and foreshadows later variations like Ultimate Cap and... Hydra Cap?

Want more "Woke Captain America?" Plenty in his history. Check out old thread on his mid-80s fight vs. homophobia:

Cap was a poor 1930s kid who loved FDR and was in favor of progressive social values. No way he wasn't at least a socialist.

Yup, he'd have been in Americans for Democratic Action -- leftist outgrowth of socialist parties that wasn't pacifist, wanted to fight Nazis

Could totally see his immigrant working class parents being full blown communists too

Going to correct you - I don't think he had immigrant parents. At least his dad's side of the family had long roots going back to 1776.

His parents weren't explored much for many decades, but in 2013 Rick Remender established that they're Irish immigrants.

I think it was said they were immigrants before that but damned if I can recall where. My impression was Remender mainly added wife-beating.

Cap's dad being abusive and alcoholic was established before Remender. I recall him talking to Nomad about in in the 90s

When Tony Stark is struggling with alcoholism (Demon in a Bottle era in the 80s) Steve also mentions having an alcoholic dad.

It's real! Published by Marvel Comics with a cover date of August 1990; it's Daredevil #283, written by Ann Nocenti, drawn by Mark Bagley.

I remember Ann Nocenti Daredevil well. By night DD would fight criminals, by day he would represent them in court & plea for mitigation.
