We found that odorant receptor tuning is linked to the evolution of sexual signaling in orchid bees using a combination of chemical ecology, population genetics, whole-genome resequencing, and neurophysiology

How does dirt shape food webs? With
@SharonStrauss1, we find that generalist caterpillar species narrow their diet breadth in serpentine soil plant communities, shifting the plant-herbivore network towards a more stable structure. Fave PhD chapter :-) pnas.org/content/early/… pic.twitter.com/Dbhfm5UqT3

Excited to see the second chapter on my dissertation online in @sse_evolution! This paper describes my biggest experiment: 6 monarch butterfly populations from around the globe reared on 6 milkweed species. Stay tuned for more from this system! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.111…

I have seen Jadera sticking their beaks in non-Sapinds for hydration, and they often aggregate away from their hosts - I would be amazed if they were able to develop on something that distantly related to soapberries! Any Saponaria or Cardiospermum around?

Would you be willing to share a rubric your org uses to evaluate their job candidates? I've never seen this formalized in my field and it would be great to see how someone else has done it!

Every entomologist should know these 2 facts, so u can say it when asked why insects are important: $57Billion/yr is the benefit of insects to US as pollinators, decomposers, pest control etc; and >40% of all insects may go extinct in ~2-3 decades at current rate.
