If you read one post about the Wuhan virus, let it be this one.

Only two minutes of your time to understand. Only Two seconds to retweet & share with the world this message from the Iraqi people.

If insects have their internals underneath a hard shell, I figure an "outsect" has their internals exposed to the world. A hop, skip, and a jump of brainstorming, and I picture this scene from the Simpsons.

I agree. This would validate the "writing is thinking" view of how writing works. My writing usually follows consuming/reading/listening/visualizing something that's currently challenging

Also known as "peak experience hedonism." It's an interesting approach to life, and I've seen several such people who seem to be have fulfilling lives It is antagonistic to tranquilism (fulfillment = the absence of craving) though, so I'm somewhat sceptical of it

This type of relationship (1 step of reasoning and synchronous in time) was an early adaptation for hominid brains and feels really intuitive as a result. You may have stumbled across just how "natural" it feels, as opposed to asynchronous or multi-step reasoning

This reminds me of Pierce's concept of the "Index" in how languages formed An "Index" is a sign that is logically connected to a referent and is common in nature. Footprints imply the size and type of the animal. Ambient sounds imply nearby fauna. Branches imply wind speed

Yes, it's very common. Carl Jung has been writing about "Individuation," a process that ideally ends in one's 20s, since at least the 1930s, as well as why more recent Western generations particularly have struggled to complete the process

I'd ask him about 's thesis in "Average is Over": economies will split into wealthy technocrats who leverage tech for great power, and everyone else. Does Stuart Russell consider this a plausible potential failure mode of ineffectively managed AI development?

This adds a little more oomph to the childhood advice I used to receive on "always opening a window." Adulthood is discovering just how much parental advice holds up under randomized controlled trials

I suspect building mutually reinforcing connections between beliefs is one of the most enjoyable, personal experiences possible. If the flow state is "living totally in the gap between moments," I'm talking about "living totally in the gap between beliefs."

My personal example is the concept "hermeneutics" (methods for interpreting philosophical texts) + the etymology of the term (legends of Hermes as the messenger of the gods who adds his own tricks, lessons on the pitfalls of rational inquiry) + counterfactual thinking on life

Beautifully put. When 2+ belief systems / philosophies / lexicons / fill-in-your-preferred-term fit together in a mutually reinforcing way, it's a gloriously pleasing moment

I believe describes "concentration without insight" as "golden chains," with the meditators called "Jhana junkies"

I'd like to pitch for the Threefold Trainings for meditators: virtue, concentration, and insight. The tweet below is about the harm in being underdeveloped in virtue, but people can spin out wildly if not well-developed in the 3

Interesting. Are these the 3 Marks of Experience in your preferred framework? I practice Insight Med with Dukkha (dissatisfaction) instead of Shunyata, with the other 2 the same I'm not hating, just curious

Second, I have not experienced a similar smooth experience in writing. I am still baffled by subtle differences in typographical customs. For example, why do some writers use these angular quotation marks instead of the regular ones? I've never seen these in English

I suspect they subconsciously prioritize their feedback for topics where it can be most effectively absorbed and is most needed, given the speaker's current ability

Some final comments: I noticed that not everyone "earns" this level of feedback from native speakers. My teachers stopped and corrected me on tiny errors of nuance, while fellow students who were ~80% to fluency were not and were only stopped on larger errors
