Victoria, Australia (8pm curfew, 1hr allowed outside): police knock a man down with their car, and stomp on his head. He's now in a coma. State premier Dan Andrews comments: "all of this can be avoided if people don't protest."

I gather the two clips shown are not really connected ? One -the stomping - happened last night, and was quite unrelated to lockdown violations... but the Andrews press conference is from +/- a week ago. This type of false juxtaposition tends to discredit dissent.

No, they are related. At the beginning of the press conference clip the journalist asks about two incidents. This is one of them: a man "kicked in the head" by police. Everyone understood at the time it was not a protest-related incident.

In Australia as in UK it is not clear what they are hoping to achieve, what is the end game? They do not understand diseases & seem to think they can beat the virus like it was a fist fight. But it is now endemic (like chicken pox) & we need a containment strategy & live with it.

It's crazy. The endgame in Victoria seems to be to lockdown and wait for a vaccine (which the Federal govt has said they want to make "as mandatory as possible") but it won't provide sterilising immunity, or be effective in the elderly.

This stuff went on in the 1930-1940โ€™s in Germany and Italy it shouldnโ€™t happen in 21st century Australia

You might be thinking of the 1920's, when the "fascists" (ordinary, fed up Europeans) defended their countries against Soviet-backed communist revolutionaries who had just mass-murdered millions of the smartest Russians, and wanted to do the same in Europe.

Whatโ€™s the exit plan for the lockdown in Melbourne & Victoria? Or is it in place till a vaccine is available in about 10 years?

Victoria's targets seem designed to fail. Andrews said we need to be "COVID Normal" through 2021 (no new cases for 28 days + no active cases.) To even end the stay-at-home order & curfew, we need to drop below 5 new positive results/day, for a city of 5m.
