"Go back to your country!" I've documented hate crimes for 18 yrs & THIS is what we hear immediately before the gunshot or beating or stabbing or killing. Consistently. Persistently. When I hear these words, my body knows that THIS is the moment to brace for violence. [THREAD]

When Trump says, If you don’t like, it leave it,” people I know say it reminds them of a sign like this from 1971 in NC county near where I live.

This is one of America’s more prominent classical music writers. He’s always been like this, and yet he keeps getting jobs writing about our art form. Says something about who we are as an industry and what we’ll tolerate (if not openly embrace.)

Just to be clear, each time folks say the 4 Congresswomen are outside the mainstream but don't say the same of where Trump & the GOP are right now, y'all are saying white nationalism is more politically acceptable than these 4 advocating clean energy, healthcare & human rights

ICE agents terrorized this New Jersey teenager throughout Sunday night. She knew not to open the door because of the “know your rights” posts on social media.

I once wrote a column about a man who told me to go back to my country — and another man who responded to that man with unexpected patriotic eloquence. It is an antidote to this unpardonable racist vileness from the president.

Key&Peele spoofed him on Madd TV, Dave Chapelle spoofed this and Boondocks an episode about this, all almost 15yrs ago. The timing of this outrage is something else. Still, get him tf outta here

This is what makes me so sad when people complain about feminism having gone too far etc. Men fear ridicule and humiliation - but women fear violence. Woman punched unconscious after telling man who followed her from nightclub: 'Sorry, I'm not interested'

I wrote a piece for explaining why honoring a former Confederate general and KKK grand wizard in 2019 is *outrageous.* It's unfortunate that I felt the need to write this. But alas, here we are.

The beauty of anti-racism is that you don't have to pretend to be free of racism to be an anti-racist. Anti-racism is the commitment to fight racism wherever you find it, including in yourself. And it's the only way forward.

3/ By the numbers, here’s what we know: 125,000: the rough number of rapes reported each year 49: the number of cases out of 50 where the suspect goes free. 200,000: the number of untested sexual-assault kits (estimated by the federal government)

To fully grasp the gall of this statement, it helps to know that, by law, Epstein was required to check in with police every 90 days after his conviction. In 8+ years, he never once did so, and the NYPD just let it slide

But even the president of the United States sometimes must have to stand naked. Not going to link to Trump’s three racist tweets from this morning but I did report them to Twitter this morning & suggest others do as well. , are you ever going to honor your terms of service?

A chilling, and apt, warning for the U.S. today by the philosopher Hannah Arendt (1906-1975). Spotted in a book review.
