Christine Valada, J.D.
Susan Ellison has asked me to announce the passing of writer Harlan Ellison, in his sleep, earlier today. “For a brief time I was here, and for a brief time, I mattered.”—HE, 1934-2018. Arrangements for a celebration of his life are pending.

So sorry to hear this. He's been my favorite writer since I first encountered his work, as a teenager. I was fortunate enough to meet him just once, at a Dream Corridor signing in 1996. Condolences to Susan and HE's many friends.

Harlan once tried to convince my dad to throw me out of the house so I’d be a real writer. My dad didn’t do it, but I appreciated the gesture and will always love Harlan for his wonderful words and his staunch refusal to accept the unacceptable.

He will be missed. He did a lot for a lot of writers, and made a lot of readers question our own actions and choices.
