Utah passed Medicaid expansion via Proposition 3. The measure won a majority of the state senate districts - doing especially well in the Democratic areas of Salt Lake but also winning in more eastern rural districts and some of the GOP suburbs. Divided the state east/west

Last Nov, Utah passed Medical Marijuana via Proposition 2. The measure passed in 15/29 of state senate districts. Regardless, the legislature convened a session to override the measure and pass its own law - which is more limited (link)

January 16, 1919 (100 years ago today): 18th amendment (Prohibition) reached requisite support for ratification (3/4 of states, or 36 of 48) following Nebraska vote. Amendment became operative Jan. 16, 1920. Repealed by 21st amendment 1933

contrary to some more recent narrative, many of its backers viewed it as a way to protect people. in retrospect this was a bad reaction - but making moral judgement on a decision gets tricky cause you assume you'd do different hint: you'd have done same thing
