Reluctantly I have concluded that President Trump is a serious threat to US national security. He is refusing to protect vital US interests from active Russian attacks. It is apparent that he is for some unknown reason under the sway of Mr Putin.

He wants a war in my opinion. Putin too it seems to me.

And we will win. Chins up. No defeatism. Ike used to say: “there will be no long faces at this conference”.

I generally lean towards optimism. It's a bit hard right now but we have to believe we will.

Its hard to stay optimistic, when they’re playing chess and we’re still playing Chinese checkers...

Worthwhile things rarely are. We find ourselves in this mess. Perhaps it’s partly our fault. We are called

Fair analysis. I submit the culpability is entirely our own. We all saw the historical standard for what passes as “presidential” scrapped in lieu of “well, that’s entertaining”. The only silver lining is a wiser, cautious electorate.

How come ppl are taking so long to identify this serious threat? It's been so apparent since before the election! And the GOP Congress are just as guilty!!! They have seceded from the union!

What can be done? You've all been saying this for months now. What can we do to protect ourselves if POTUS won't? Your statements are not helpful, we need solutions!

Perhaps if we had a joint statememt from other military officials and the five former presidents, we can initiate a serious campaign to remove Trump from office. I don't know what we're waiting for (and I don't want to know).

I’ve had the same thoughts, sir. I suspect that our former Presidents have too much respect for the Office of the Presidency, and our future Presidents, to open that can of worms...Do we really want every future Chief Executive publicly second guessed by their predecessors?

I wholeheartedly appreciate your perspective. I would agree that our former presidents choose to let the nation observe + make its own conclusions. It would be a terrible precedent to jointly denounce him. However, our former military do not need to be silent. They should speak.

My concern is just how far do we continue to accept this? Does some sort of irreversible catastrophe have to occur before we say enough? Trump is unlike any POTUS + he abuses the Constitution and uses it against the nation. It is extraordinary and abnormal. We may need...

extraordinary tactics to finally be done with him, which is why I suggested a joint statement. I don't know who in Congress is realizing the severity of a POTUS who does not care about his own nation's security.

First Mueller and midterms. Hopefully sanity and love of country prevail. I sincerely hope it doesn’t come down to extraordinary measures. Historically those situations are associated with violence. My single greatest fear right now isn’t war, it’s poor faith in election results.

Don't forget the 'Hurricane Stormy' wildcard. That has promise too. Odd as it may sound, your words are refreshing because my thoughts are often too dark + apocalyptic. Since 65%+ of America is not riding Trump's train, I am optimistic about midterms + Mueller the Magnificent.

Thank my mother. She’s the one keeping me sane right now. I’m not really optimistic about our institutions ability to right this ship...but we have to give them a chance. The alternatives are all too “dark”.
