For f@(k’s sake Google. Does a local brand search really need to surface competitors “to explore” above the branded profile? Ok. It’s a test. Of what? How loyal a searcher is? Seems like one big psych test

"New Home Page" huh? Only if your new home page wants to steal all your money and sleep with your significant other.

Yes. After I tweeted I realized that Barbara should be thankful that there is just a scroll bar and not a full screen of ads

Does this happen when the business is closed for the day, or happens regardless? Wondered if that was the reasoning but unlikely still (and not that helpful).

Doesn’t your GMB show up for your competitors’ brand searches as well? Seems like the little Mom&Pop can take from the big brand name in the area. I’m okay with this. Interested to see the change in engagement.

They're testing how to integrate competitive ads, this will be the next step in monetizing local search. Soon you'll probably have to pay to keep competitors off your profile much like Yelp.

Reminds me of the advanced stages of the Yellow Pages industry: it's a test to see just to what degree search results may be made less relevant before users finally revolt and leave.
