Cobblestones are hell on ppl who are ambulatory but have tentative balance. Pretty sure none of the multistory bldgs have elevators. I’m not arguing against critiqueing US cities for carchitecture. I am tired of inaccessible scenes being posted uncritically.

Proximity to someone who is disabled isn’t the same as not being ableist. You chose what you viewed as better and didn’t mention “except for the fact that my uncle and any other disabled ppl would be left out”. I’m saying think before you post inaccessible places as an ideal.

This is why it is SO important to not give progressives a pass on their ableism, to not assume cyclists and New Urbanists are incapable of anything like oppression. They are ableist & would gladly design ableism into the new infrastructure.

Every single motherjumping time I see someone in the cycling/New Urbanism community tweet or RT stuff like this, I can tell they’re abled. Because they are completely ignoring the ways in which what they’re idealizing are inaccessible to disabled people.

I don’t know when my fellow cyclists who follow me are going to learn their lesson about how fucking ableist this is. Do we need better urban design & humane density? Yes. Do we need more inaccessible infrastructure? NO

This is the goofiest fucking shit. It will only lead to more confusion. Just count the whole thing up, double-check it, and *then* send it out, like they do in functional countries!

A few thoughts about the Iowa Caucuses: what we are seeing there is part of a larger shift, the same thing that happened with the Boeing 737 max, the MiDAS software that wrongly kicked 20k people off of unemployment in Michigan. We are seeing over and over the replacement of

I think the EU, at least the member countries’ officials and EU MPs I’ve seen quoted, have been remarkably kind. I couldn’t have managed it.

So the fact that I mostly stopped singing for the last 10 yrs should give you an idea of how hard a period it’s been for me. I must find the time, now that at least some of this has changed, to let my voice loose again.

With proper training, I could have attained much more skill than I have. But even mostly untrained, I got pretty good and so much of that was due to sing daily for so long, just because I enjoyed it. I was depressed all those years as well.

I know I need to get back into shape in time to make the most out of whatever allotted lifespan my vocal instrument has. Not just cardiovascular shape, but all the skills in smoothing passage from chest voice to head voice, controlling vibrato, etc.

Like any serious vocalist, I worry that with age I’ll lose my voice. Not all vocalists do, but a significant portion do. The sound grows more gravelly or ropier.

I really wish I could get access to the music rehearsal rooms at UC Davis. I need the security of knowing I can sing full bore (and make mistakes) without disturbing anyone. Even though my neighbors use power tools, constantly rev their pollutionmobiles, etc, I’m still quiet.

But I was really happy that despite not being able to put quite the power behind these songs that I used to, my vocal control was still surprisingly good although it has no right to be.

Due to my living situations over the past 10 years and resulting depression, I went from being at the peak of my vocal prowess to rarely singing. I know I’ve lost stamina, power, and notes off either end of my full range.

I’m not sure why, but I don’t have that show memorized anywhere near as well as BBB, despite hearing it sung by my dad and brother around the house.

My parents love musicals, but two were sung often around the house when I was growing up. “Bye Bye Birdie!” and “The Music Man”. I’m glad tonight’s current events drove me to listen to some of The Music Man online.

LOL I shouldn’t laugh because the kleptocracy in charge of this place has ensured we shall receive similar diplomatic responses everywhere.
