Maureen Johnson
Expert noting here from the VEEPtastic . So...Boris Johnson, who is like a smart Trump who was probably hugged by his nanny and therefore doesn't have all of the devastating personality problems but rather other, possibly weirder ones, was elected PM by that party.

This happened over the summer. Now, remember, on October 31st, without any other plan or prevention, the UK will crash out of the EU without a deal. This is called No Deal, and is basically looks like this:

Like, food and medicine shortages, items rotting in port, people trapped in other countries without a clear sense of where they can go, and a sudden, massive problem with the Irish border that could result in the restarting of the Troubles, which is horrific. SO...

There has been a strong movement in the UK to get No Deal off the table, because the idea of food and medicine shortages, border chaos, a tanked economy and war doesn't sound appealing to some. (Plus, many people want to stop Brexit for those reasons and more).

(deep breath) But! Boris Johnson and the Conservatives have gone do or die into this Brexit thing. No matter how stupid charging into No Deal is, it's what "the base" (and possibly some others) want, so Boris is all, I WILL DELIVER THE BREXIT!

Thank you for this. Truly. Iโ€™m in the US and have been listening to as much BBC news and NPR to try and keep up but since our corner of the world is a rotted Cheeto bonfire Iโ€™ve had a bit of trouble figuring it out.

No, we (US) too are torching what was previously a decent government and a leading world economy so I feel no comfort in watching the UK self-implode.

At least you have an election coming up. Because of the (narrow, but in preference of Brexit) 2016 referendum result here, it looks likely that should we crash out, it will take some time to build up enough to return what's left of the UK to the EU. Like, maybe a generation.

Not sure the guy who's fighting to crash out of the EU with no deal deserves the moniker "smart Trump." As for personality problems, this is just a small sampling:

The reason we consider him smarter than trump is because his dumb schoolboy act is just an act. He uses it to make him appear like an idiot so nobody takes him seriously all while heโ€™s plotting to destroy our country. Canโ€™t stand him or trump. Theyโ€™re both fucking awful

Boris seems to be like Trump, except he has a smokescreen of "oh shucks im a likeable weirdo who s a bit of a ditz " around his personality.
