- conservation v climate politics is interesting, the former often gets a positive run but yes comes unstuck when it clashes with ag and primary production - egalitarianism - everyone is made in the image of god and inherently valued = conservative - anything else is reaction

more and more the conservatives I follow/read are of the view that: - moderated trade unionism is requisite for middle and working class families to have security, - wealth distribution is out of hand, - entire sectors of the economy which are socially deleterious make big $$

I'd disagree there. Neoliberalism has been the driving force on all three of those fronts since the 80s as they are the impediments to laissez faire markets - serious conservatives (as opposed to a basic reactionary politics) is mostly concerned w families and small community..

we only ever went to smacking if the kids were being exceptionally rude, or dangerous physically to themselves or others and would not listen - but tbh basically can count on one hand the times this happened bc we actually communicate w them

idk whoever's putting these lists together just is being smart instead of fun - Thucydides gets a run - where's Cleopatra? Helen of Troy? Nefritity? History can be fun.

yeah we have fires closer to Melb fairly regularly, and have had at least 3 large recycling plant fires where people had to evacuate if they were close and accept the govts advice on air quality etc

that and most of our CFA volunteers come from Melbs outer suburbs, rather than being more truly rural as appears to be the case in NSW? Again could be similar in Syd and I'm just not across it.

tbh - I think Melbourne has had more exposures to emergencies over the last 5 or so years where people have had to accept govt direction amd information and are more accustomed - might be that I just dont get local Sydney news however

They're prioritising people's work - asking people to stay home so they *don't* have to go to a stage where more people wind up impoverished and lockdown shuts down even more - and it's actually working.

please, a conservative NSW government literally banned fun and has radio stations that inject wanton regulatory boomerism into the psyche of it's populace

I reckon there's like a 99% chance they are totally unrelated but I'm pretty sure he knows that a cardinal just got cleared (pretty much) of child sex abuse these things can both be true, unrelated and it can be a bit on the nose

the very substantive and undeniable guilt in the man is how he lead the Church in the handling of the whole process, and treatment of the wronged over *decades* - this has always been there in plain sight, yet no accountability - and that is what has always got me

look - I'm not really anyone's guy here - personally, I don't think the courts decision is unfair (in my limited understanding), and was pretty 'wtf' when he was convicted in the 1st place - not bc I hold a firm view, just.. it seemed like it was out on a limb
