We were looking at inverse proportion in class today and I ended up scribbling down an image to help them grasp the idea. I'm not sure how useful it is to all students but it seemed to help them

Made this for my diverse S2s. It must have grabbed them because they were silent ... twice! They struggled with what might go 300mph ... I dismissed their 'cheetah' and 'speedboat' but they weren't having it. Pleased I no longer teach 3 distinct procedural lessons at this level.

Using bar modelling to show the concepts of multiples and factors. The concept/non-concept slide draws on Engelmann's idea of sameness when introducing a concept - keep the structure of the sentence stem invariant to draw attention to that which varies.
