Nats have optioned Joe Ross to Fresno. Righty James Bourque comes up from Double-A. This will mark his first stint in the majors.

-Those are the two fastest pitches hit for HRs this year, per Statcast. They came in consecutive ABs. -The Nats are now the first team since this started getting tracked in 2008 to hit multiple HRs on 100 mph pitches in the same game or SEASON. Again, they did it back-to-back.

Awesome stats for ya that we just dropped on our Nats Xtra postgame: Juan Soto homered on a 100.1 mph pitch. Matt Adams followed with a homer on a 101.5 mph pitch. Now get this...

Someone tell Don Mattingly it’s May 24 and not Game 7 of the World Series. He might be a bit confused.

Said that was a good matchup for Soto going into the AB. Guerrero loves his fastball and has terrible control. Fell behind, grooved Soto a heater. Soto doesn’t miss grooved heaters.

There’s no place more positive and supportive than this social media community. And I guess that’s why at least five times a season I hear, “I’m done with Twitter,” from a certain coworker!

Bottom line is, independent of everything else, on a check-swing that’s that close, there is no reason at all that a home plate umpire should make the call. You cannot be looking at the strike zone and the bat path at the same time. Check it. That’s all a hitter wants.

Just to be clear, no one actually held an umbrella for me. I wasn’t thattttt much of a diva. Haha. But Alex had a red one, which gets extra points for sure

Nats also scored the fourth-most runs in baseball in 2017. Rotation ERA was fourth. Defense ranked 11th. A lot clicked that year.

I gave Alex the contact info for both Jeeves and Geoffrey, but I guess she wasn’t interested in retaining their services.

The Nats will need six non-Doolittle outs tonight. Joe Ross is the first guy up.

Max Scherzer is pretty damn good. Back to you, Bob.

Max Scherzer knows himself and his physical limits during an outing better than any pitcher I’ve been around. He’s very self-aware. He demands another hitter or inning when he has it in him, but tells a manager when he’s emptied the tank or someone else will be more effective.
