Rizzo also said the Nats have extended “offers” to Anthony Rendon. The club is hopeful they can lock Rendon up to an extension. There’s interest on both sides, just need to find a match in terms.

If Bryce Harper doesn’t return, the Nats obviously will rely less on sheer power. Rizzo says they’ll need to focus on other elements more - run prevention, speed, athleticism, offensive efficiency.

Congrats to Chelsea, who has done a great job on the Nats beat the last few years. Excited for her, but things will be less entertaining, punny and neurotic without her around. Don’t tell her I said any of this, though. (Except about her being neurotic...she knows that part.)

The Nationals mourn the passing of area scout Ray Blanco. Blanco served the organization for seven seasons as the area scout for Miami and the South Florida region. Blanco was a member of Arizona’s front office with Mike Rizzo as they won the 2001 World Series. He will be missed.

The puck is gone. He can’t see Reeves coming. In today’s NHL, that’s a bad, bad hit.

This now gives the Nats a catching tandem of Kurt Suzuki and Gomes, which is pretty darn solid from an offensive standpoint. Sure feels like those two will get a fairly even split of the playing time, if both are healthy.

Getting my question in early because it’s a very important one: Who’s the best-dressed broadcaster?
