Didn't score too highly on University Challenge but have a consolation prize/hot water bottle dog here.

At , where various projects investigate the long history of text & especially the materiality of textual objects, we've just launched 'Recollections', which brings personal archives to life. This has been a tricky project /1

Dealing with a really horrible typesetting foul-up in a book. All DOIs have been set with em-dashes replacing hyphens, breaking loads of them!

I did this in 2008 and have never really looked back. This just proves, in some ways, though, that "intuitive" really means "learned" and it's what you are used to.

Universities also have autonomy over what they do/how they teach (obviously curbed by financial considerations/soft power), so could have decided not to bring students back and to teach almost entirely remotely (as we did at Birkbeck).

Research Pro is good on the UCU legal action against the government: "It is noticeable that the union is directing its action against the government and not vice-chancellors. UCU may have a stronger case in arguing that employers have breached health and safety in the workplace".

The problem is that open-source solutions just do not have the level of investment that market-dominating for-profits can put in. It's the Uber of our space. They can beat us out with a short-term loss and it's very hard to "compete".
