Here’s something that’s absolutely terrifying: a comparison of the age distributions of Covid-19 cases in Italy, where they are only testing people who show symptoms, and S. Korea, which has broad testing. A whole lot of 20-29yos out there who feel just fine but are v contagious.

I’m going to mute this now for obv reasons but want to address one misunderstanding: the takeaway is not that young people are more likely to be carriers; it’s also not sufficient to say SK’s distribution is an outlier because of its initial outbreak, and leave it that. (1/2)

It’s that while every other country is showing primarily older populations infected because those are who develop more severe symptoms and self-select for tests, we can’t ignore that young people contract that virus too, and that even if they feel fine they act as carriers.

To be fair for this virus does have a negligible effect on many in that age bracket.

This seems like important context for the age of cases in SK.

I’m curious what the distribution of tests were. I don’t know much about the Shincheoji sect in South Korea but I’d be surprised if it was just a ton of young people?
