Aw, thank you. On a Beatle-related note, few things online have brought me such joy as Carpool Karaoke with Paul McCartney, especially the part where he revisited songwriting with John:

The first day back from holiday almost makes me wish I had never taken a holiday. Almost ;) And thank you for the kind feedback! I will have only myself to blame for inbox inundation upon return, I guess :)

Crafting my out-of-office message while listening to John Lennon has left me sorely tempted to have this as my auto-reply:

When I scratch the surface I am often amazed to find a toxic stew of shame and guilt in which my patients’ psyches are embroiled — the stigma of cancer lingers, and it feels to many like original sin

It comes from years of indiscriminate toxicity but we can certainly do better with our messaging and show that we care about morbidity & mortality (one of the main reasons I’m on Twitter actually)

Medical oncology. I know we have a terrible reputation but I got into the field because I saw my Dad die of cancer in 1994 and it’s astonishing the progress that’s been made with both efficacy & tolerability. Still, we have miles to go before we sleep ...

American dude to me upon learning I'm Scottish: "you eat haggis? That is so disgusting" Same dude: <gleefully consumes meat slurry & pink slime extruded into a casing made from small intestine, then cured with nitrites>

Very interesting (and even reassuring?) findings, as this issue is of real concern to patients who require contralateral port placement:

Thank you for introducing me to the wonderful catalog of Jeff Rosenstock. Perfect Sound Whatever is the best song I've heard in ages, and an incredibly catchy reminder to be kind to ourselves when we fall short of personal goals.
