I'm curious when the Cambridge researchers used the FB API to slurp up all that data. This was the permission dialog around 2011, that line about "Access my friends' data" does not communicate much about the implications of clicking allow. Nor does "Access my data at any time"

What if companies spent less design resources on engagement and spent a little more helping people understand the security and privacy implications? I won't say they do nothing and I won't say it's an easy problem, but they could do a heck of a lot more.
