I write non-magical historical fantasy based on ‘dark ages’ European history. Here’s a link.

Always. This is a client's book, too, so even worse somehow.

OK, , wish me luck. About to begin uploading a book and cover for paperback...6th book I've done, but there are always surprises. Fingers crossed no major glitches!

Thanks, Renee. I'm up against too many deadlines to play along this time, I'm afraid.

Empire's Reckoning. All my books - this is #4 - follow this pattern: Empire's 'something'. Non-magical historical fantasy.

Medieval Manuscripts 16h
There's never a dull day at the British Library. Today we did a recording using these two manuscripts. We'll tell you more in a future blogpost, but we made the presenter's day. It was great fun! Old English herbal (Cotton MS Vitellius C III) Cadamasto's herbal (Harley MS 3736)

That changes over time plus he never does just one thing. Translator, envoy, bard, estate manager, teacher.

I think one of my sources of indecision is that the truth he's checking on has been exactly that - a secret that is a source of tension, its reveal being a major turning point in the story, and there is another big one to come. This reveal may fit better in book 5.

A lot of the book's theme deals with oaths and their meanings, and what drives a person to breaking them (or not), and when that's an honorable path. This is not honorable, and Sorley knows it. Still mulling...

It's the internal conflict - Sorley's arc towards maturity and forgiveness. Which is the more mature response is what I'm considering: revealing or privately accepting your 'sin'. There are two more books in the series, so he doesn't have to reveal it in this one, either.

A poll, . My MC has done something reprehensible - he's read part of someone's diaries to ensure he has been told the truth about a pivotal event. He feels terrible that he's done this. Does he tell the diarist at some point, or is this guilt he lives with?

Aristotle Coffee. Hmmm....now if I tweaked that a little...Aristotle Coffey....that might have real possibilities.

We've been together 40 years. Not without its ups and downs, but a solid friendship based on shared interests got us through those, that and a willingness to listen and explore and grow.

Thank you! Any particular focus for the excerpt? Here's a possibility. This is early in Book I, Empire's Daughter.

Gradually he swung faster, and faster again, until the sword blade blurred against the sky. I saw the power and control from his years of discipline, but like the stoop of a peregrine or the leap of a , beauty and grace lived in this lethal dance.
