I struggled with this exact thing a lot during grad school. No matter how much you love science - try to decouple your self worth from your projects. You'll be much happier. A person before a PhD: understanding and combatting an academic identity crisis

Excited to share our work demonstrating diverse cellular and network mechanisms in the prefrontal cortex underlying working memory-guided decision making and cognitive flexibility. Many thanks to all co-authors, editors and reviewers

'Cell shape' would probably do to replace morphology for instance

2/2 Other widely misused words: physiology, geometry, anatomy, architecture… Most of these terms could be replaced by much simpler and meaningful words!

1/2 Not sure why in (neuro)biology we started to use names of disciplines to mean biological features. Example: ‘Morphology’ means ‘study of the shape’. So we do morphology if we study cell shape, but "cell X displays Y morphology" seems quite meaningless.

Great leaders don’t have all of the answers. Great leaders are great learners. They recognize what they know and don’t know and then ask questions and seek out advice to fill that gap.

The way we were treated as small children is the way we treat ourselves the rest of our lives: with cruelty or with tenderness and protection. We often impose our most agonizing suffering upon ourselves and, later, on our children.

The people we admire the most are not those who never fail. The people we admire the most are those who have the courage to try things that might not work and the resilience to keep going when things don’t go as planned.

Consider: millions of years ago our antecedents gave a massive sacrifice of their left hemisphere. We lost a tremendous amount of short term memory and replaced it with Broca’s, Wernicke & the phonological loop. But why? So we can—talk. Thus chimpanzees can do this—we can’t:
