If this is the quality we can expect, it’s going to be difficult to recommend SF Symbols for anything other than rough prototypes.

I believe the icons looking blurry is inherent in the technique, and near impossible to work around, even for icons we make ourselves. I guess I’m sticking with PNGs for everything.

SF Symbols are essentially an icon font, right?

It’s worth noting those issues are extremely easy to see from a normal viewing distance on device.

The drafts icon in Mail is a good one to look at on device, if you’re running the beta.

Huh! we’ve been using icon fonts for years for their benefits, but I’m very much aware of the downsides and it feels quite un-Apple. I’d have guessed they’d come up with some smart solution to get the benefits without the blurriness

By blurring the icons a little with an icon font, and a little more with display scaling or other crappy techniques, they’re effectively simulating Presbyopia. This isn’t just a software quality issue — it’s an accessibility issue.

Why complain about this on Twitter? I keep hearing that tweets and blog posts are more effective than bug reports. I want this fixed. Here’s your tweets, Apple staff. 😀 (DMs are open!)

I sort of get their use on the web, but it feels like a huge regression on iOS.
