Science writer Sarah Olson has provided a compelling, and much needed, way to communicate science that challenges rooted preconceptions among science denialists. I wish scientists would shift their focus from "convincing" to "discussing", like Olson advocates.

A weird part of being a zoologist is knowing the sinister behaviours of animals that most of your friends think are adorable & spending every conversation wondering whether to bring it up

So, that paper we all reported on showing transmission of from an “asymptomatic case”? Well, it turns out the woman did have symptoms. Here’s what we know so far:

e no, niente di nuovo quando i giornali - oltre a dare notizie di false scoperte e a esaltare un nazionalismo fuori luogo - rappresentano le scienziate come eccezionali, superdonne, angeli, dream team rosa:

My family and their community's beliefs have change over time, but there is still a distrust of science and medicine. It's made for tough conversations, particularly about hot-button issues such as vaccines. I wrote about it for :

THIS IS THE OTHER THING Do you know how many *widely prescribed* and necessary medications have weight gain as a side-effect? A lot. I look up medication info nearly every day for work, and at least half can cause weight gain. Some of them cause diabetes too, for funsies.

Hell no! 😅 It's not clear what are the advantages of having such BMI in the first place. In absence of full knowledge about the benefits/risks of such invasive procedure, the whole informed consent for patients is invalid — from an ethical and legal perspective.

New episode available where I put Elon Musk’s business venture Neuralink under a spotlight. After you watch the video, feel free to keep the conversation going. Would you be willing to undergo surgery for the device created by Neuralink?

I think it's time to have a proper taxonomic classification for all these cases of toxic behaviour in academia. That silly wisdom offered by Castro should be label as Oppai Science™, from the Japanese word おっぱい. The trickiest one is the label for the deaf universities🤔

My bet is on "participants fail to notice mismatches between what they choose and what they get, and then they confabulate tons of arguments to justify the mismatches". These kind of Cognitive Science studies are my guilty pleasure. They are so good🥰

The lesson here is that you should never play a D&D session as an Elementalist character, because their class feature distribution is uneven. Pfff! Who knew antivaxxers were such hardcore D&D player? 😏
